Prancing Horses Take Center Stage at Supercar Sunday's Ferrari Marque Day: Photo Gallery

The swarm of enthusiasts rush to get close. Moving like high schoolers running to a lunchtime fight. What’s that? Caitlyn Jenner just pulled up in a Ferrari La Ferrari? Let’s go! Only this time nobody rushed to see the celebrity. The first Sunday each month SCS holds whats called a Marque Day. On July 7th, the Pierce Lot was filled with the growls and howls of barely restrained potential energy coming from the powerful engines of one of the most beloved automobile manufacturer, Ferrari. From F250’s in subtle maroon to sinister blacked out Testarossas to halo models such as La Ferraris and F40s. The parking lot was filled to capacity with the marque specific Ferraris as well as the vast range of automobiles that are ever present at Supercar Sunday.

The highlight of the show occurred around 9 AM when Caitlyn Jenner brought her black Ferrari La Ferrari which was immediately followed by a stunning red Ferrari F40. With the two cars parked right in front of one another the crowds attention was secured. Knowing we would have time to see them later when the crowds subsided, Nico Amato and I took the opportunity to get a closer look at the other cars outside of the marque specific zone. One of our personal favorites was a soft lime green 1958 Impala bagged low to the ground with chrome glistening despite the dark overcast lighting. A grey Pendleton hung from the window by a hanger. A sense of intense southern Californian culture dripped off the car like an ice cream cone in the sun. There was not an imperfection to be found.

Further in amongst the pack was the most unique vehicle we have seen yet at Supercar Sunday. A highly modified Lexus sitting on long travel suspension with oversized off road tires and large fender flares. Covered in dirt, the off white Lexus had an incredible presence with a reinforced skid plate and rally lights up front. The car had the dents to prove its functionality. Perfection doesn’t always abide by concourse standards and this Lexus was rolling proof.

While the La Ferrari and the F40 were the definitive highlight for most spectators, Nico and I were drawn to a bespoke dark red Ferrari 812 Superfast grand tourer. A rather non traditional car for modern Ferrari, the 812 has a front engine rear wheel drive layout with intelligent four wheel steering. The 812 possesses a stunning sweeping body design with subtle active aero. As of 2018, the 812’s 6.5 liter V12 is claimed by Ferrari as the most powerful naturally aspirated engine to be placed in a road going car. At a screaming 8,500 RPM the engine produces 789 horsepower and 530 foot pounds of torque at 7,000 RPM. The refined monster propels the car to a claimed 211 miles per hour which holds up to its bold nomenclature.

Not to be outshined by the rearing horses, many other supercars vied for attention amongst the classics. Off in the corner was a particularly pleasing visual of a red Viper, a blue Porsche 911 turbo and a white Aston Martin Vanquish. With the 4th of July just behind, the picturesque trio were particularly pleasing. While we were leaving, a long line of Nissan r35 GT-Rs were pulling in amongst others. Unlike the regular SCSs, on Marque Day, the crowds and cars just keep rolling in when normally the parking lot is emptying. If you can, make sure to be there next month for Classic Mercedes day on August 4th!
